SPECIAL hOPERATIONS
ANNUAL - dates vary
Special hOperation events are a new category of annual bike rides. They can be seen as an escalation of our monthly regional day excursions, ramped up to full-blown travel/tourism. As with all of our events, we make every effort to leverage clean transportation (especially rail transit) in order to reach far off places where we use our bicycles to explore the terrain and support local craft breweries (and eateries) before making our way back to LA.
DISCLAIMER: EVERYONE RIDES AT THEIR OWN RISK. We do our best to keep everyone safe but we can't be everywhere at once so you (and only you) are always responsible for your own safety on our rides.
Always bring your own bike lock, patch kit, communication device, and valid form of identification.

Previous Trips
2024_3/26-3/29
Our first #specialhoperation will make good use of the official LAUSD Spring Break week by taking us to Northern California, where we will camp at a regional park in Sonoma County for 3 days of bicycle brew-hopping, centered around the annual release of the gold standard of IPA’s; Pliny the Younger.
For those wishing to arrive or depart outside the margin of scheduled events, we’d be happy to coordinate extracurricular excursions (and maybe even lodgings) in the surrounding area.
Lodging
We have a cabin reserved with 6 bunkbeds from 3/26-29 at Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa, CA
Cost per bunk for all 3 nights is $40. That’s for all 3 nights total, not for each night. DM to inquire about claiming a bunk. *all 6 bunks have now been claimed* PLEASE let us know if you'd still like to go because we can reserve the neighboring campsite and put a big tent on it for up to 8 additional skitchers.
Additional campsites are available nearby with prices ranging from $35-80/night.
Please let us know if you’d like to coordinate additional off-site accommodations.
Transportation
You are strongly encouraged to travel solely by rail and ferry for this trip but we understand if driving is more practical for you. There will be parking for 2 vehicles at the cabin and there is additional parking available nearby. If you do choose to drive, plan to come early so you can be at Downtown Santa Rosa SMART Station by 9:20a on 3/26.
For those wishing to minimize their impact on the environment, enjoy the scenery at an easier pace, and bring their bike at no extra charge, we recommend the following:
Travel Itinerary

Provisions
Pack light for this trip, especially if you are traveling by rail. If you would like to have any kind of supplies cached at the campground ahead of your arrival, just reach out and coordinate with us because an organizer will be driving a load up from LA about a week before the trip (we can also transport anything you’d like back to LA afterward)
Luggage
Bring some kind of bag to comfortably carry your *two bottles* of Pliny the Younger and/or any ingredients for preparation on the grill/campfire.
Attire
In our experience, lycra hasn't been the most versatile travel attire. We recommend lightweight clothing that can be hand-washed and hung to dry between uses. We usually bike-travel with just one full change of clothing and a couple packable layers so everything can fit into one bag.
Kitchen
Plan to cook some kind of dinner at the campground every night. We will have breakfast at nearby cafes to start each day and we will have no shortage of dining opportunities throughout the day at our planned stops. We will provide wood, charcoal, cooking utensils, and picnickware for the cabin campsite so you can feel free to whip up a snack if you get up early or feel peckish in the evening.
Bedding
If you are staying in the cabin you will have to provide your own sleeping bag or twin bedding. We can transport it for you ahead of time so you don't have to worry about carrying it on your bike. Other campsites will require your own tent and bedding which we will also be happy to transport for you.
Power
Backup batteries for your mobile devices and/or bike lights are strongly encouraged and we will do our best to keep apprised of available charging opportunities. We don’t want you running out of juice and unable to reach us (or snap that perfect selfie) We will bring a fully charged large back-up battery to the campground just in case.
Note: if you are already in town, meet at 9:20a at Downtown Santa Rosa SMART Station
